KSB // Where are you from and how did you find your passion for motion graphics.
YESYES // I’m from a very small town called White Salmon, Washington which is located on the scenic Columbia River Gorge. It was a very beautiful place to grow up but I hated it seeing as I was a rambunctious kid. I was obsessed with gangster rap, punk rock and vandalism. Basically everything my small town wasn’t. A kid moved into my town from New York and gave me a book called Graffito. It was a bay area graffiti book. It blew my mind. I was obsessed. We had a train yard about 30 minutes away where we would go and paint freight trains. When I was getting ready to graduate High School I said to myself “What the frig are you gonna du dude?”, and was like “mmmmmmm….gggraphic ……design….????…..!!! Yeah yeah yeah Graphic Design”. So I went to a terrible community college and worked for my dad’s roofing company for 2 years until I saved enough to go to a terrible trade school that will remain nameless but is ITT tech-ish. After graduating I moved to Los Angeles and started working.

KSB // I saw on your site that you did some work for thrasher. When and what was that all about?
YESYES // That was a project that was done in college and it really wasn’t that good but I grew up skateboarding so I am proud to have worked with them. Best magazine hands down.

KSB // What is your favorite part of the creative process?
I really like the writing/directing process. I feel I’m better fitted for that. I can animate, design, and stumble through a lot of the execution process but I enjoy developing ideas in my notebook and gathering a team to execute them.

KSB // What part of the creative process are you most confident in?
YESYES // I would say that I am currently the most confident in my writing/directing process but I feel that my best work has yet to come.

KSB // (optional but highly preferred) Please pick a piece of work and screen shot it. Talk about something an average motion designer wouldn’t know about the piece.
YESYES // 100% of the Autolux music video was created with Cinema 4D. Also every frame of that video was rendered from one computer. It was HD 24 fps. It was around 7300 frames. The average frame took anywhere from 3-5 minutes with some scenes taking 20 minutes a frame. That equals to mad render time, yo.

KSB // Have you ever been mistaken for Vince Mcman’s brother?
YESYES // Haha I wish. That would be tight. I have not been mistaken for his kin but maybe I should start name dropping like I am.

KSB // Living/Working in L.A. – Pro’s and Con’s
YESYES // Living in LA and Living in LA.

KSB // What do you do for inspiration when pressed for ideas? (A story of any time this has happened is cool too)
YESYES // I love looking at books, sketching, finding new music, or enjoying my amazing view from my living room. You can’t be afraid to fail. Just keep making stuff and move on. I got no time for rear views.

KSB // When you were a kid, who did you want to be when you grew up?
YESYES // When I was a kid I wanted to be Ed Templeton. I had the skate video Welcome To Hell on VHS. I watched that everyday. I had to do 2 cassette transfers and a lot of tape gluing because my VCR player was a monster. I wanted to be a pro skater but I soon realized that I was horrible at the sport.

KSB // If you were to take a 1 year sebatical what would you do with that time?
YESYES // I have a really hard time sitting still. I would probably go to mexico for a couple months with my girlfriend. After that I would finish the short Im currently developing. Maybe throw a slow speed police chase in there to keep things interesting.
